Social impact innovator Advancement for Rural Kids, Inc. (ARK) and cross-cultural learning stalwart Global Playground come together for BAHAY : home, an art exhibit and cocktail benefit to provide for classrooms in the Philippines swept by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.

Leading Filipino-American and Canadian artists Alan Calpe, Sara Jimenez, David McQueen and Maia Cruz Palileo will showcase their works of varying media that touch on the experiences of exploration and immigration, significance of family ties, quest for identity and belonging, and desire to look back and give back.

Visit BAHAY : home in New York at Rogue Space | Chelsea only on Friday, Nov. 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Tickets are available at BAHAY.eventbee.com.

Each ticket at $55 comes with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails and funds a classroom chair.

Proceeds from art sales will fund inspiring furniture and critical elements to complete three classrooms in ARK’s and Global Playground’s partner school in the rural town of Mangoso, Capiz.

Classroom furniture will be built using natural materials sourced from local farmers, by the best artisan carpenters from the province, and were designed by David McQueen and New York City-based Elemental Interiors.

Classrooms feature integrated water catchments and ecological filter systems as sources for clean drinking water and were designed by Scale Studio in close collaboration with the local community.

Advancement for Rural Kids partners with rural communities to feed and keep kids in school and to create new income.

ARK is ridiculously serious about creating solutions with the community.

It only invests in communities that invest in themselves (and don’t want hand-outs), and only in solutions that locals champion and can afford to sustain on their own.

It tracks impact and cash flows and creates a better future for all involved in the journey — student, teacher, parent, community, investor, ARK die hard.

It is a 501(c)(3) organization in the U.S., collaborates with talent, and welcomes support from all over the world.
