In an unprecedented show of unity and cooperation, two University of the Philippines Alumni group will come together to present the world renown, multi-awarded choral group of their alma mater, the UP Concert Chorus, at the Montclair State University in New Jersey.
The University of the Philippines Alumni Association in America (UPAAA) led by its president Nelsie T. Parrado and the University of the Philippines Medical Association, NJ-NY-CT Chapter (UPMASA) led by its president Dr. Dennis Dimaculangan, will jointly present the UP Concert Chorus (UPCC) at the Memorial Auditorium of the Montclair State University (located at 1 Normal Avenue) in Montclair, N.J. on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 7:30 p.m.
UPAAA and UPMASA are both 501 C (3) non-profit organizations involved in raising funds for projects that support student scholarships and professorial chairs, among others, in the University of the Philippines System.
This time, the net proceeds of the concert will support their respective projects.
The UP Concert Chorus, the official choir of the University of the Philippines, is an internationally competitive performing choral group.
It has mastered versatility in singing classical, folk, pop and Broadway musical genres with signature vibrant choreography, and has become a veritable icon of performing arts as the pioneer of Choreo’ Cappella or choreographed acappella in the Philippines.
Through the gift of cultural music, UPCC pursues with continuing passion, its desire to unite audiences of various cultural backgrounds.
New Jersey is very fortunate to host the first concert for the 2016 Tour of the Americas, which begins at the end of May until August 2016, covering the East Coast of the USA to the choral festivals in Ecuador, some parts of Columbia and some cities of Canada.

In a related development, UPAAA president Nelsie Parrado revealed that one of the reasons for the involvement of UPAAA in co-hosting the UP Concert Chorus in New Jersey is to drum up support for the UPAAA Grand Reunion which will be held at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel in Iselin, N.J. on Oct. 26, 27 and 28, 2017.
A portion of the proceeds will be used to augment the funds needed to prepare for such a significant national event, where U.P alumni from all over the United States and beyond are expected to attend.
The UPAAA Grand Reunion Organizing Committee will be offering opportunities for sponsorship and advertisers, especially to businesses and institutions that would like to reach Filipino-American professionals and their families from all over the country.
