New York Consul General Tess Dizon-de Vega led a contingent of Filipino-American community leaders on the 11th Ambassadors’ Tour, which was held from July 11 to 16, 2017 under the auspices of the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT).

No less than President Rodrigo Duterte welcomed the U.S. group, and played gracious host since this year’s Ambassadors’ Tour was highlighted by the President’s native Davao, as well as Manila.

According to the DOT, the Ambassadors’ Tour is designed to reconnect U.S. participants with their Philippine roots, and driven by the goal of encouraging visitors to spread the word about the country as a must-see tourist destination.

The tour started with a welcome reception by the DOT in Manila, a wreath-laying ceremony at Rizal Park, lunch at the historic Ayuntamiento, and afternoon guided tours of the capital.

Participants then immersed themselves in Davao’s unique attractions, such as the Durian Candy Factory, the Museo Dabawenyo, sparkling Hijo Resorts, Malagos Garden Resort, the home of the award-winning Malagos Chocolate, and a dinner hosted by the President.

A visit to Pampanga, de Vega’s provincial hometown, was just as memorable.

This leg of the Ambassadors’ Tour featured the Pamintuan Mansion and Museum, the famous San Fernando Lantern (parol) Factory Outlet, the Holy Rosary Parish Church, a luncheon of kapampangan cuisine hosted by Mayor Edwin Santiago of San Fernando, and a delightful merienda at the Museo Ning Angeles hosted by Angeles City Mayor Edgar Pamintuan.

Participants agreed to do their part as envoys of Philippine tourism in the U.S.

Their consensus was that the fascinating six-day tour was too short, and that frequent returns will be part of their future vacation plans.
