NEW YORK — The Geneva-based International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), an international human rights non-governmental organization composed of some 60 eminent jurists, including senior judges, attorneys and academics who are experts in international justice systems and international law, sent a candid and no-nonsense letter to President Rodrigo Duterte.

The closure of the highly regarded Rappler news website establishes a clear pattern of harassment and repression under President Duterte’s increasingly repressive regime.

Arnedo S. Valera, Chairperson of US Pinoys for Real Change in the Philippines (USPRCP), an advocacy group based in Virginia, said the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had legal grounds in its ruling to revoke the registration of the online news organization Rappler, Inc.
