Handang Tumulong Foundation, Inc., a non-profit group that helps disaster victims in the Philippines through its disaster relief fund, will stage a benefit fashion show on Aug. 27 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan.

The by-invitation-only event titled “Anyo” will feature the Philippines’ rich fabrics and the collections of three multi-talented visionaries from the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines, namely Edgar Madamba, Richard Papa and Edgar San Diego.

The three designers have travelled extensively across Asia, Europe and America doing shows for the Filipino and American communities, mostly to help raise funds for various charity events, according to Cora Reyes, chairman of “Anyo.”

The show is choreographed by Erno Hormillosa, with Troi and Mapet Santos as artistic and creative directors.

Eleanor de Leon, wife of Consul General Mario de Leon, Jr., is honorary chairman.

Handang Tumulong hopes to be able to send immediate assistance to the Philippines in the event of future calamities visiting the Philippines again, says Nelsie Parrado, president of the foundation.

In 2008, Handang Tumulong sent cash donations to seven provinces in the Philippines battered by Typhoon Frank.

The foundation also donated in 2009 following the back-to-back devastation wrought by Typhoons Ondoy and Peping in many provinces.

Handang Tumulong continued its relief efforts in 2010 benefiting provincial schools, the Philippine National Red Cross, Caritas, Ayala Foundation, Rotary Club, the provinces of Samar and Isabela, GMA Kapuso Foundation, as well as Pakistan.

It hosted the 2nd annual “Walk for Health, Walk to Help” walkathon in Jersey City in October.

For this year, the foundation gave monetary assistance to Davao, Philippines and Japan.

“With everyone’s support and cooperation, we wish to continue to raise funds to benefit our needy kababayans back home,” said Cora Reyes, chairman of “Anyo” fashion show.

“We also want to give aid to other countries who have been devastated by floods, mudslides, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and other disaters.”
