Fiesta in America’s seminars will feature the hottest-button topics in the expo’s 18-year history, said Len Manansala, Vice President for Marketing and Communications.

“Heart-healthy cooking based on ancestral diets, Philippine franchise investing opportunities, and immigration will be at the core of discussions at New Jersey’s Meadowlands Expo Center in Secaucus, N.J. on Aug. 13 and 14,” said Manansala.

“Participants should come out of the workshops with clear action plans on how to become healthy on a daily basis, financially strong in retirement, as well as informed on green cards, naturalization and other related immigration issues,” said Nanding Mendez, president of Fiesta in America Expo and Cultural Show.

A limited number of free entrance tickets (Senior Citizens only) and workshop seats can be secured by arriving at a specific time on both days of the expo — Saturday, Aug. 13 between 12 noon and 1 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Tickets are regularly priced at $25 for general admission, and $65 for VIP seating.

Seniors can also avail themselves of free tickets courtesy of AARP during that brief span and while special-offer ticket supplies last.

All seminar attendees will get special gift bags courtesy of Goya Foods.

Participants can also attend a solemn Mass and a festive Santacruzan on Sunday.

On both days, workshops are slated from 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. just before the concert starring teleserye superstars Paulo Avelino and Julia Montes, “Lounge Queen” Jo Awayan, comic Poca, and comedian Jojo Mabolo, plus a bevy of U.S. and international performers.

Meriterese Racanelli, MS, R&D Food Scientist/Nutritionist for Goya Foods internationally and the National Hispanic Medical Association, will present “MyPlate Recipe for Better Blood Pressure, Body & Mind.”

She will discuss how lower sodium, lower-sugar cultural foods and meals can help the U.S. Filipino community reduce blood pressure, diabetes and weight gain issues.

Her presentations continue the Goya Foods MyPlate/MiPlato program that Goya started in 2012 as part of the initiative by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and USDA to help consumers make better food choices.

People attending the Goya workshops will receive a Goya MyPlate recipe gift bag with Goya low sodium products, MyPlate cookbook, recipes and more.

Prof. Eric Soriano of the Ateneo Graduate School of Business will conduct a workshop “Become a Franchise Business Owner!” on Philippine franchising opportunities.

He teaches global marketing, chairs the marketing cluster, and heads the business school’s real estate program.

He is a National Agora Awardee for Excellence in Marketing Education by the Philippine Marketing Association.

“Filipino franchisers are expanding their customer base across the rest of Asia, in the United States, in Europe, and in Africa,” said Soriano.

“Filipino brands continue to make waves in the international franchise arena, proving that the local franchise industry is fast becoming one of the country’s biggest dollar earners.”

In a separate workshop, Atty. Maricar Mardrid Crost of Madrid Crost Law Group will discuss the “Parole in place for relatives of Fil-Am Vets” and “Expanded Provisional Unlawful Presence Waiver,” as well as other crucial immigration and naturalization subjects.

Aside from Goya’s workshop on better food choices, major U.S. brands will make Trade Pavilion presentations related to Total Wellness, the 2016 theme of Fiesta in America.

“Total Wellness means practices that contribute to overall well-being,” said Coy Apostol, Fiesta in America’s Sponsor and Exhibitor Relations Manager.

“They range from healthy diets to brain health and positive relationships. AARP will promote real possibilities at 50+ years of age. The Hackensack University Medical Center will offer free health screenings and distribute free passes to their state-of-the-art Corporate Wellness Center. And at the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey exhibitor booth, attendees can ride a stationary bike that produces healthful fruit and vegetable drinks powered by the rider’s pedaling.”
