Special to the Filipino Reporter

JERSEY CITY — The Filipino Organizations Unity League Basketball or FOUL Basketball is organizing its first ever one-day basketball tournament called “One...Life” at Saint Peter’s College in Jersey City, N.J. on Jan. 15.

Why “One...Life?”

“One...Life” represents simplicity with a direct approach and message.

FOUL Basketball believes that we cannot help everyone in need, and that we just need to focus on helping out however we can “One...Life” at a time.

Helping even “One...Life” or one person in need is better than not helping at all.

The “One...Life” one-day tournament is a charity event to benefit the victims of Typhoon Sendong/Washi in the Philippines.

As many of you know Typhoon Sendong/Washi hit the Philippines, particularly Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City, a week before Christmas that left more than 1,000 people dead and tens of thousands of people homeless.

Houses, schools and buildings were damaged.

Those that survived are cramming for shelter in covered basketball courts and schools.

Help is badly needed!

FOUL Basketball, along with 24 different teams/groups and organizations in the tri-state area (New York/New Jersey/Connecticut), will gather together for a day of basketball, fun, get-together and bayanihan to help raise funds.

The teams are:

Blue Knights, CGGB, iTeam, Middlesex, Romeo P. Team, Sendong Aide, Shadows, Truckers, D’ Finalist 10, Jersey Shore Athletic Group - JSAG, Nosaj Entertainment - NE, GlenPatrick Team, Pinoy, Roteks, St. Marys, NY Rockits, Calo Tax Services, North Jersey 1-2 & 3 and FABA 1 & 2.

One hundred percent of the proceeds collected will be donated to the Philippine Red Cross.

Jersey City Councilman Rolando Lavarro will participate and be a part of the opening ceremony tip-off.

Ex-Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players expected to suit up and join in the festivities are Abet Guidaben, Yoyoy Villamin, Tim Coloso, Richard Bugnot, to name a few.

Some notable businesses and organizations have also reached out and offered sponsorship and services:

• Nosaj Entertainment — a Jersey City, N.J.-based Fil-Am concert producer/promoter.

• Lente Photography — a Hackensack, N.J.-based professional photography company.

• Roteks — a husband-and-wife tag team organization based in Connecticut.

• NAPOLI Foods of Connecticut.

• LSQCNA — an alumni organization based in North America.

• North Jersey Kapatiran — a basketball organization in New Jersey.

A total of 24 teams, 16 teams for the All-Asian 6’2 & under division; and eight teams for the mix/co-ed 12 years old & under Peewee division will participate and compete for the right to be named the first ever One...Life Champion.

There will be foods, drinks, games, raffles and music for the whole family to enjoy.

So please join us on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012 starting at 8 a.m. for an all-day long of festivities.

Saint Peter’s College is located at 2641 JFK Boulevard, Jersey City, N.J. (gym entrance is by Montgomery Street).
